Today we took the short drive from our lovely place in Penrhyndeudraeth, Wales, called Idris Bach (side note: all the homes in the UK seem to be named; a really cool feature), which means Little Fiery Lord in Welsh. The drive was spectacular through the mountains and we lucked out and got a spot in the busy car park at the base of the climb we wanted to do called the Pyg Track up to the summit of Snowdon, Wales' tallest mountain.
It was quite the hike, taking us roughly 6 hrs to ascent and descent. Needless to say we're tired now! It was a little more challenging than we were anticipating with the downpours, hail, wind and scrambles, but we persevered and made it to the cloudy, stormy summit. Well worth it!

Pyg Track starting point. |
No clue that 4 minutes into walking a downpour is going to hit us... |
The start of the ascent! |
Panoramic views everywhere we went. |
Smiles post storm. |
This was the nice portion of the hike! |
Apline lakes Glaslyn (closest) and Llyn Llydlaw below |
"Holy f*$k, we're going up where...?" |
Forced smile because we can finally make out people climbing to the summit. |
On the saddleback before Snowdon's summit. Peep the railroad track that hauls tourists all the way up... Kind of undermine's the trek it took to make it all the way up in my opinion! |
Almost there! |
We've got a visual |
High winds up here! |
On the very cloudy and stormy summit! Not much of a view for us unfortunately |
The beautiful Welsh coastline in the distance! |
About to make the journey back down |
Glaslyn Lake; we've noticed a lot of familiar names from home during our time here so far. Lena and Keith's place wasn't far from a town called Maidstone! Still looking for a St. Walburg and Paradise Hill though... |
We were up on that point! 3560 feet above sea level |
I survived the hike despite Case's relentless taunts about not having proper hiking boots for this trip... some may even say I was quite nimble in them. |
A little break at the lake. |
Searching for the perfect skipping stone |
Got two skips... good enough |
Contrary to popular belief, to go down we still had to go up. |
