04.10.2018: Isle of Kerrera, Scotland

Today Courtnie and I drove from Ayr to Glasgow and dropped off our rental car and caught a train to Oban. Once we got to Oban we caught a tiny ferry to the Isle of Kerrera, which is the home to around 65 people! We chose this Air BnB because we thought it would give us a cool experience of the island, to just be able to tour around on our own, without other tourists, etc.

The caravan we are staying in is owned by a man named Colin who lives with his family here and has built up two other stone cottages that were derelict ruins when he bought the property. He has volunteers come from all over the world to help with the planting and refurbishing of the buildings to keep it all in shape. Being a stonemason by trade, he is able to do most of the work himself, and also helps others on the island with odd jobs, and receives other goods that they produce in return. He's a very crafty, hands on person and his kids are living their best life out here from what we can tell!

Highly recommend the Madadam trilogy by Margret Atwood!

Gylen castle in the distance, we are planning on checking it out tomorrow

The beach! Which is just the nearest access to water that isn't a cliff

Courtnie starting the frustrating process of building an Inukshuk

As you may notice, the photos I am taking are from further away, meaning I did not partake in the building of the Inukshuk!

A frenzy of art

Colin mentioned that this dog would follow us everywhere, Midgey is her name (we think... that Scottish accent is a tough one)! She actually terrified me because she jumps between the cliffs!

Scotland's West coast

I sat here the whole time Courtnie built her Inukshuk

Down beasty!

Finishing touches

It turned out great!

Taken with my gopro and not Court's expensive camera

The ferry picked us up from here, and while Courtnie and I were talking to the Ferry operator he asked if we were staying at Colin's and he said that we will be neighbours! He is probably 50 meters away from where we are in a camper he rents off of Colin.

The dangers of trying to get a great photo to share with you people!
