23.11.2018: Old Town Salzburg, Austria

Today Courtnie and I toured Old Town Salzburg! We purchased a Salzburg card which gives discounted or free admission to many of the city's attractions so we had a pretty full day, as the card is only valid for 72 hours. We toured the Mozart Museum, the Sound of Music Museum, and another gallery located in the Residenplatz square which had an exhibition on the creation of the carol Silent Night. We also managed to check out multiple Christmas markets in Old Town and tomorrow we plan to tour the Hohensalzburg Fortress.

Salzburg Cathedral

Salzburg is known as the City of Churches, and the City of Music

My souvenir guide booklet to Salzburg explains that Old Town is a combination of tall merchants' houses and narrow alleys, along with the baroque buildings and squares of the Prince-Archbishops' quarter.

First childhood home of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart! Sadly, we were not allowed to take pictures inside but we were able to tour through the house and the room where Mozart was born. There was a museum inside that had a couple locks of Mozart's hair, his childhood violin, letters from himself to his wife, and information about the family. It was really interesting to see.

I have not actually seen the Sound of Music! So I have to watch that right away! We really enjoyed getting to see photos of the original Trapp family whom the film is based on.

Another church that is actually in the process of being restored

This church had 5 organs! The largest one at the back is pictured.

Tons of them!

Flashback! Courtnie and Justyne have taken great care of their original teddy bears from when they were children. Courtnie's is still on her bed at home, he is a polar bear named Creamscicle, and Justyne had a panda named Ping Pong, so Court needed to get a picture with these bears in the window.

Hohensalzburg Fortress in the background on the hill, and where we are heading tomorrow morning.

One of the Mozart statues. According to my tourist booklet many people were upset with this statue because they feel it is lacking in likeness to Mozart, and in his hand he is holding a pencil, which at the time were not yet invented! He should be holding a quill.

The Silent Night carol exhibition! My artwork on the left and Court's on the right

As mentioned in the picture above the Residenplatz was used as a location for the burning of books during WWII

We have plenty of Christmas markets coming for the last leg of our trip

Angela keeps asking for angel ornaments. We found her this one.
